A pending name was the "League of Villains," but that was already taken.

EMBER is a government task force funded by the Authorities[1], which tracks and kills vigilante superheroes, high-tier individuals and is the overarching antagonistic faction of unORDINARY.

EMBER'S Infamous Insignia.

The organization of EMBER is shrouded in complete mystery. What is known about EMBER is that it targets vigilantes and people with high power levels. According to news reports, anyone killed by EMBER usually has multiple stab wounds and burns, as well as the EMBER insignia burned onto their bodies. While EMBER is presented as a "gang" in public media, in actuality, EMBER is a task force funded by the Authorities and bolstered by NXGen.

One of EMBER's main operations is selling Ability Amplifying drugs to known criminals. They are distributed in low-tier districts in order to keep a low profile. The drugs are generally sold to power-hungry mid-tiers, however, they recently broke the rule by selling drugs to an elite-tier. This implies EMBER is becoming more brazen.

EMBER has also delved into the related field of Conversion Technology. It allows their high-tier operatives to artificially acquire additional abilities to use, strengthening them and allowing them to remain anonymous.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The first mention of superheroes and EMBER are in Chapter 6 when John and Seraphina are at Woaba Boba and a news reporter mentions the death of X-Static.
  • Remi and Isen begin to believe that the organization is connected to, or even part of, the authorities, as of Chapter 50.
  • Remi suspected that EMBER was the group responsible for Seraphina's ability loss. This was, in reality, the doing of another group called Spectre.
  • It was thought that EMBER was created in response to the sudden emergence of superheroes in the wake of the publication of Unordinary. But the groundwork for their research preceded the release of the book by over 10 years.[8] The vigilantes just so happened to provide a convenient means of claiming new abilities for their agents.
